CK-MB

CK-MB – Creatine kinase (CK) is a dimeric enzyme expressed by various tissues and cell types. In the cells,

the “cytosolic” CK enzymes consist of two subunits, which can be either B (brain type) or M (muscle

type). There are three different isoenzymes: CK-MM, CK-BB and CK-MB.

The primary source of CKMB is myocardium although it is also found in skeletal muscle. CKMB

levels increase with myocardial damage.Heart1

CK-MB is used for the diagnosis of myocardial infarction and re-infarction.

CK-MB2

Creatine kinase MB (CK-MB) levels can be detected within 4 to 6 hours of the onset ofmyocardial infarction, peak within 12 to 24 hours, and usually returns to baseline levelswithin 24 to 36 hours.
